Tuition Fees Regulations

Pursuant to § 91 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz, UG), the following regulations concerning tuition fees apply:

Membership to the Austrian National Union of Students (ÖH) is compulsory for all degree program and non-degree program students and costs € 22.70. The ÖH membership dues must be paid by all students, including those whose tuition fees are waived.

Tuition-free Semesters and Additional Semesters

When calculating the number of tuition-free semesters for degree-program students (does not apply to third-country nationals in possession of a residence permit for students - Aufenthaltsbewilligung Studierende), two extra semesters are added to the standard duration of each curriculum.

Please note: All students are required to pay Austrian Students' Union (ÖH) membership dues.

Calculation of the prescribed duration of studies and the number of permissible additional semesters

The number of semesters completed is indicated by the respective program code (pursuant to § 5[4] of the University Studies Evidence Act [Universitäts-Studienevidenzverordnung, UniStEV], Federal Law Gazette II no. 288/2004 as amended; Federal Law Gazette II no. 161/2011 as amended) assigned to the program curriculum. Semesters completed while enrolled in one program are included in the semester calculation of any new program enrolled. Semesters studied under one curriculum are added together.

Waiver of Tuition Fees

The application period for the winter semester ends on September 30 and for the summer semester on February 28/29. Please submit applications for a waiver of tuition fees to the Admissions office.

All documents must be submitted as original documents. Documents issued in foreign languages must comply with the appropriate regulations with regard to translation and legalization.

If it is not possible to submit your application for a tuition fee waiver before September 30 or February 28/29 for the respective semester, or in the event that valid grounds for a tuition waiver (e.g. illness, pregnancy, or responsibility for the care of a child) occur at a later date during the respective semester, tuition fees must be paid. However, an application for reimbursement of these tuition fees can be submitted, accompanied by the documents named above, for the winter semester by March 31, and for the summer semester by October 31.

Applications for reimbursement of tuition fees (see: valid grounds for a waiver, a to f) must be submitted for the winter semester by March 31, and for the summer semester by October 31.

Applications for reimbursement of tuition fees for cases not covered under items a-f of valid grounds for a waiver may be submitted starting May 15 for the summer semester and starting December 15 for the winter semester.The application period is limited to a maximum of 6 months, i.e. the application period for the summer semester ends on November 15, and for the winter semester on June 15. Reimbursement of over-payment can be applied for at any time.
