WU welcomes new professor of organizations and institutions

Mila Lazarova will be strengthening the research and teaching activities of WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) starting in May. A native of Bulgaria, she has lived and worked as a researcher in North America for more than 25 years. She specializes in the field of global mobility, a special area of HR management.

Mila Lazarova specifically studies the career impact of international work assignments. She also carries out research on repatriation, work/life balance issues related to global mobility, global careers, and the role of organizational career development and mobility practices in organizations. Her research interests also include the changing role of HR departments and country-specific differences in human resource management. At WU, Mila Lazarova plans to deepen her collaborations with WU scholars and start new ones on projects in areas including careers, comparative HRM, the study of workforce integration of skilled migrants and global mobility.

Scientific career

Mila Lazarova received her PhD in 2002 at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey (USA). She then began her career at the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, Canada) where she has been ever since. From 2012 until 2022 Mila Lazarova held the Canada Research Chair in Global Workforce Management. She is currently the William Saywell Professor of International Business and is also the director of the Centre for Global Workforce Strategy at the Beedie School of Business. Mila Lazarova was visiting faculty at WU from 2010 to 2011. In May she will start at WU with a part-time double affiliation at the Department Management within a §99a professorship ("Hiring by Opportunity").
