Light fixture falls from ceiling in WU’s Library & Learning Center

24/02/2015

Tuesday afternoon, a light fixture came loose and fell from the ceiling in one of the reading areas of the Library & Learning Center on the new campus of WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business). No one was harmed in the incident.

As a precautionary measure, all areas of the building where similar lamps are installed have been closed until further notice. According to a first, preliminary assessment, the incident was caused by human error: The wrong materials may have been used during the installation of the light fixture.

The company that installed the lights in the LC building and the contractor responsible for supervising the work of the companies involved in the construction of the building will be held accountable. An expert and the company responsible for the lighting installations are currently conducting inspections to determine the cause of the incident and any further steps that need to be taken.
