The WU Anniversary Fund of the City of Vienna

To mark the 100th anniversary of WU Vienna University of Economics and Business in 1998, the City of Vienna set up a centennial anniversary fund for WU Vienna – as a birthday present, so to speak. This was part of broader efforts by the city to step up its commitment to research and Vienna’s universities. The purpose of the fund is to support WU research projects in specific areas that are expected to yield benefits for Vienna’s economy and that strengthen the transfer of knowledge between academia and businesses in Vienna. The fund’s generous endowment of 1.82 million euros (in today’s money) has made it possible to fund numerous research projects and initiatives since the establishment of the WU Anniversary Fund.

Endowment

In recognition of the WU Anniversary Fund’s great success story, the Vienna City Council passed a decision on January 25, 2008, to renew the fund with an endowment of 5.1 million euros.
