Alexander Kaiser, Head of the Knowledge Management Division at WU Vienna, has been invited to contribute a chapter to an international memorial volume honoring Professor Ikujiro Nonaka, one of the most influential scholars in the field of Knowledge Management.

The volume, tentatively entitled "Managing as a Way of Life: Knowledge Creation Toward the Common Good of the Future", brings together scholars who were closely connected to Nonaka and his work. In addition to Professor Nonaka’s former students and academic collaborators, only three international researchers were invited to contribute, Alexander Kaiser among them. The volume will be published in both English and Japanese. The invitation represents a significant academic distinction and a great honor for the Knowledge Management Division and the Institute for Data, Process and Knowledge Management.

Alexander's contribution will build on Nonaka’s theory of knowledge creation and trace how his long-standing engagement with Nonaka’s work has inspired the further development of concepts such as Ba and Ma, meaning creation, and the ideal self. These ideas have also become important foundations of Spiritual Knowledge Management, an approach that has been substantially developed and shaped by Alexander Kaiser and is currently gaining increasing international attention in research and practice. In this sense, Spiritual Knowledge Management can also be seen as one of the intellectual fruits of Nonaka’s pioneering work: it takes key impulses from his understanding of knowledge creation and develops them further toward questions of transformation, human development and wisdom.
