“WirtschaftsWoche” publishes business administration ranking

14/12/2020

WU came in at 3rd place again in this year’s ranking of the most successful business administration research universities.

Like last time, the University of St. Gallen came in at 1st place in the ranking of the most successful research universities in business administration published by the German weekly "Wirtschaftswoche", followed by the Technical University of Munich (TUM). WU comes in at 3rd place as the best ranked university in Austria. With a total of 142 publishing authors in various sub-rankings with different weightings, WU has a very strong research faculty in business administration, not only among senior faculty, but above all among its junior researchers.

Numerous sub-ranking results

In addition to the university ranking, rankings are also published in 3 categories with 14 different weighting schemes: the most research-intensive business administration scholars (Author Ranking), the best researchers under 40 (Under 40 Ranking), and the lifetime achievement category (Lifetime Ranking). The publications of the last 10 years are analyzed for the Author Ranking, while a researcher’s entire academic career to date is taken into consideration for the Lifetime Ranking.

Business administration rankings

According to "WirtschaftsWoche", their ranking method, which is not uncontroversial, is based on an analysis of all relevant papers published over the last 10 years in a total of 860 journals. The weighting is based on the journal ranking issued by the VHB (German Academic Association for Business Research). The rankings were compiled by the KOF Swiss Economic Institute at ETH Zurich together with the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE).
