Humor as a path towards sustainability

This event is organized by the WU Department of Socioeconomics

Climate change, biodiversity loss, wars – faced with multiple crises, many people experience feelings of anxiety, or they start putting up walls around themselves. Humor can help us to break free from that, subvert expectations, and open us up to new insights. How can we use the methods of late-night comedy in education and management? How far can we go in comedy, and when are we crossing the line? In this discussion with leading comedians from Germany and Austria, we’ll be exploring the connection between laughter and learning.

Lecture:

Andre Martinuzzi, Head of the Institute for Managing Sustainability, WU Vienna

Discussion:

Peter Graff, Founder and Artistic Director of the American Improv theater, Vienna, PhD in linguistics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, computational linguist at Intel, Santa Clara, lecturer at MIT, Harvard, UC Berkeley, McGill, the University of Vienna, and WU Vienna

Anja Grüll, PhD student, WU Vienna

Markus Hennig, German comedy writer, long-serving head writer for the ZDF Magazin Royale show, winner of the 2013 Grimme-Preis award and the German Television Award

Florian Scheuba, Austrian actor, comedian, writer, columnist, and presenter, winner of the Österreichischer Kabarettpreis, Salzburger Stier, and Romy awards
