• During the exchange semester, students are required to complete courses approved by the THEMIS partner universities for a total of 30 ECTS credits, of which at least 24 ECTS credits must be positive (these do not necessarily have to be recognized at WU).

• If you receive a grant (e.g. Erasmus+ or the WU mobility grant), sufficient ECTS credits must be recognized at WU.

• For Europe and selected countries, the Erasmus+ grant is available to provide support for both a semester abroad and an internship abroad.

• WU mobility grants are available for students attending THEMIS partner universities in Asia and New Zealand.

• It is essential to ensure that courses completed abroad are officially recognized at WU.

• Please note that grants for internships outside of Europe are not available!

Ideally, an internship with a focus on international and business law should be undertaken abroad as part of the master's program. The assessment of the internship's suitability for the THEMIS program is conducted by the program management of the Master's Program in Business Law.

• Duration: In principle, six weeks of full-time internship work are foreseen (6 weeks x 40 hours = 240 hours). However, part of the THEMIS internship may be completed on a part-time basis. In this case, the following applies: at least one month of internship (4 weeks x 40 hours = 160 hours) must be completed as full-time work. The remainder may be completed part-time. The part-time work must be at least 10 hours per week (in total, the part-time work must comprise at least 80 hours). A total of 240 hours must be completed.

• Focus on international business law: The internship is to be completed at an internationally active law firm, the legal department of an internationally active company, an NGO with an international focus, or an international organization. It is intended to complete the internship abroad, ideally directly after the semester abroad. If this is not possible, it is possible to complete an internship with a focus on international (business) law in Austria and have this confirmed for THEMIS.

• Timing: Ideally, the internship is completed before or after the semester abroad. The internship is a prerequisite for obtaining the THEMIS certificate and must therefore be completed during the WU studies. Internships that have already been completed as part of the bachelor's program can also be confirmed for THEMIS if they meet content and duration requirements.

The THEMIS seminar is conducted at one of the THEMIS partner universities, spanning approximately three days in the format of an intensive block course. The seminar will be delivered in English. Students participating in the seminar are responsible for covering the associated costs, including travel expenses, accommodation, and other related expenses.

• The application for a THEMIS semester abroad takes place online and only in the winter semester during the application period for special programs.

• Students must be admitted to the Master's Program in Business Law at the time of application.

To obtain the THEMIS certificate, the following requirements must be met:

• Pre-approved and completed internship abroad

• Exchange semester (at least 24 ECTS credits were positive)

• Successful participation at the THEMIS seminar

Towards the end of studies: After fulfilling all requirements, students can request the THEMIS certificate by themselves and proactively at the International Office. This step is possible after students have applied for the official graduation documents.
