Join the BeAble program
To make use of the support services offered by the BeAble program, you must be accepted into the program.
The registration procedure for the BeAble program is as follows:
Send an email to the BeAble team.
If you have a medically or psychologically verified disability relevant to your studies, please contact us by e-mail.
Make an appointment for a consultation
We will then schedule an appointment (in person on campus or online via MS Teams).
In this initial meeting, we will assess your situation holistically and mutually clarify possible questions.
Medical/clinical psychological certificate
Following the consultation, you send us an e-mail with a medical/clinical psychological certificate (no older than six months; in German or English), which should ideally contain the following information:
- Certification of existence of a study-related impairment,
- Recommendation and scope of accommodations or support services to be provided, as well as
- the expected duration of the study-related impairment.
The more detailed assessment of the specialist/clinical psychological, the better we can appropriately adapt the recommendations issued by the BeAble program.
Note: A diagnosis should not be included in it.
Examination of the medical/clinical psychological evidence and issuance of the recommendation
After successful approval of your medical/clinical psychological certificate, the BeAble program will then issue a respective recommendation. Once you are accepted into the BeAble program, you will receive the recommendation by e-mail.
FAQs on joining the BeAble program
What is a study-relevant impairment?
A study-relevant impairment is a (temporary) limitation, disability or illness that has a direct impact on your studies.
Why do I need an initial consultation?
In the consultation, we want to comprehensively assess your situation and the challenges you are facing due to your impairment. We also want to clarify possible questions and offer further information about studying as a BeAble program participant.
This conversation and the joint assessment of your situation allows us to find the accommodations and services that best suit your needs for accessibility .
How long is the duration of a consultation?
Since each student with an impairment faces different challenges and the situation is therefore different in each case, there is no fixed time frame to discuss all necessities.
By experience, an initial consultation last between 30 and 45 minutes.
Do I have to come to campus for the counseling session?
We are happy to meet you in person. A consultation can, however, also take place via MS Teams.
What information should the specialist/clinical psychological certificate contain?
The specialist/clinical psychological certificate should generally contain the following information:
Confirmation that a study-relevant impairment exists,
Recommendation of the accommodations and services to be provided, including the recommended extent,
Expected duration of the study-relevant impairment.
Please note: The more detailed the specialist medical/clinical psychological evidence is, the better we can adapt the recommendation of the BeAble program to it.
Also note: The certificate should not include a diagnosis.
Who should issue the specialist/clinical psychological certificate?
The specialist/clinical psychological certificate must be issued by either a specialist or a clinical psychologist.
Can I use a specialist/clinical psychological certificate that I already have?
Yes, you can generally use it as long as it meets the following requirements:
generally not older than six months
written in German or English

- Confirmation that a study-relevant impairment exists,
- recommendation of the accommodations or services to be provided, including the recommended extent,
- expected duration of the study-relevant impairment.
If you are unsure whether you can use the existing certificate, please check with us at email@example.com.
Where should I send the specialist/clinical psychological certificate?
Please send the certificate to firstname.lastname@example.org.
In which languages should the specialist/clinical psychological certificate be written?
The certificate should be written in German or English.
My specialist/clinical psychological certificate is written in a language other than English or German. What should I do?
You can have your certificate translated into German or English, or you can have a new certificate issued in German or English.
How long does it take for a recommendation to be issued?
As soon as we have conducted a consultation and received your medical/clinical psychological certificate, we start checking the documents and take care of issuing your recommendation. This will be sent to you by email after completion.
This process can take about 5-10 working days.
How do I receive my recommendation?
We will send your recommendation to your WU student email account.

Is my participation in the BeAble program automatically communicated to lecturers?

However, if you take an exam during exam week with the help of the BeAble team, the exam coordinators will be informed that you will take the exam with changed exam modalities.
They will only be informed which changed exam modalities apply to you, but of course the lecturers will not be informed about your type of impairment.
