WU’s Intellectual Property Strategy

IP Strategy

WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) regards the creation of intellectual property as one of its key strategic objectives. Based on the EU Commission Recommendation on the management of intellectual property in knowledge transfer activities and Code of Practice for universities and other public research organisations [K (2008) 1329], WU’s IP Strategy provides everyone involved with a transparent framework for the management of intellectual property and the accompanying support measures at WU and serves as a foundation for the successful transfer of knowledge to the business community and society as a whole.

The knowledge and the inventions created at WU and protected under intellectual property rules are to be used in ways that are as beneficial to society as possible. By declaring open access to the results of publicly funded research to be the core priority of its Intellectual Property Strategy, WU is following the European Commission’s recommendations for the broad dissemination of knowledge. WU values benefits for society over financial gains.
