#ALLESUNI – WU joins campaign day for universities with a video message

21/04/2026

WU is participating in the #ALLESUNI campaign day with a video in which business leaders highlight the importance of well-resourced universities.

As part of today’s Austria-wide campaign day calling for strong universities, WU has released a video in which business leaders emphasize the vital role well-resourced universities play in driving innovation, economic growth, and social progress. This campaign day under the hashtag #ALLESUNI is the first of its kind in Austria, showcasing the valuable contributions public universities make to research, the economy, and society.

The WU video features insights from former WU Managers of the Year and Rector Rupert Sausgruber. Christopher Schläffer, founder and executive chairman of NYOUM (WU Manager of the Year 2022), Patricia Neumann, CEO and head of smart infrastructure at Siemens AG Austria (WU Manager of the Year 2024), Anette Klinger, managing director of IFN Beteiligungs GmbH (WU Manager of the Year 2019), and Georg Kapsch, CEO of Kapsch TrafficCom AG (WU Manager of the Year 2025), explain why universities are drivers of innovation, how they promote social mobility through affordable high-quality education, and the crucial role universities play in making the Austrian business ecosystem fit for the future, as strong partners of businesses and society.

Every euro of government funding pays off many times over

In the video, WU Rector Rupert Sausgruber points out that money spent on universities yields rich returns on many different levels: Especially in light of demographic shifts and profound technological changes, well-funded public universities are essential for training enough highly qualified professionals and ensuring long-term prosperity. “The taxes paid by future alumni will far exceed the government spending required for their education. That’s why every euro invested in public universities pays off for our government and for our society,” Sausgruber says.

A joint campaign by Austria’s universities

It is the first time that Austria’s universities join forces for a campaign like this one, which coincides with the United Nations’ World Creativity and Innovation Day. Under the hashtag #ALLESUNI, Austria’s public universities are sending a strong message, emphasizing the importance of our universities and their many essential contributions to innovation and competitiveness.
