WU again certified as a family-friendly university

16/05/2023

On May 10, 2023, WU was awarded the universityandfamily audit certification for the fourth time in a row.

The certification is valid for the 2023–2025 period and recognizes our university’s ongoing work for improving the balance between work and family life.

As an employer, it is very important to WU to make sure that its employees can find a good balance between their family lives and their careers. Since joining the universityandfamily audit in 2012, WU has been working on measures to give employees and students what they need to achieve this goal. This includes, for example, giving a more high-profile role to the WU Medical Officer, with a proper medical practice on campus, childcare programs for elementary school children during university breaks, and information materials for family caregivers.

In a target agreement, WU has also defined further steps to be taken during the coming years, which will benefit WU employees and students alike. Additionally, WU offers specific training and support services for employees and information on childcare facilities on campus. WU also plans to give the commitment to family friendliness more prominence at the level of the university’s organizational units.

WU is determined to continue on its successful course and further improve the balance between work and family life. “Family and work life balance issues are often a major challenge for employees and students. We want to continue to support everyone in balancing family and career better and give them a solid basis for working and studying at our university,” says Michael Lang, WU Vice-Rector for Research and Human Resources.

The universityandfamily audit certification confirms WU’s family friendliness and shows that the university is on the right track.
