How to reach Vienna

Sustainability is one of WU's core principles, and students travelling to Vienna from neighbouring countries are strongly encouraged to do so by train, as this is the most enviromentally friendly option.

Travelling by train

The two main operators connecting Vienna to other cities are ÖBB (national Austrian railway service) and WESTBAHN (private Austrian railway operator). Generally, train tickets in Austria do not include a specific seat. In peak travel times (but in general for convenience), we recommend to purchase a seat reservation with your ticket.

You can select your arrival station based on which one is closer to your appartment in Vienna.

  • Wien Hauptbahnhof (Wien Hbf) - Vienna Central Train Station

  • Wien Meidling

  • Wien Westbahnhof

  • Wien Hütteldorf

These stations are connected to different subway lines (U-Bahn), urban railway lines (S-Bahn), tramways and busses.

Travelling by bus

The two main operators serving Vienna are Flixbus and Eurolines. Main starting (& ending) point in Vienna is Vienna International Busterminal (VIB) Erdberg, which is connected by subway line U3.

Travelling by plane

If you decide to travel to Vienna by plane, you can either land at Vienna International Airport in Schwechat (Flughafen Wien) or in Bratislava.
