Increasing e-mobility by enabling rapid EV charging

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Several climate problem mitigation approaches are currently dealing with reducing our impact on the environment while providing sustainable energy sources for our day-to-day activities. Most of these approaches are concerned with producing energy from sustainable, non-polluting sources such as wind, solar, hydropower etc. However, these energy sources are intermittent by nature and do not provide a constant supply of energy, thus the need to develop energy storage systems has risen. Further technological advancement led to the development of electric vehicles (EVs). The main downsides of EVs are currently long charging times and an insufficient charging infrastructure which makes EVs inconvenient for long distance-travelling.

Therefore, the main concern of Charge.me is to provide charging solutions for EV owners. We will develop rapid EV charging stations, which are able to upgrade pre-installed charging stations which charge at a slow speed. The main aim is to reduce the charging time from hours to minutes while providing the solution at any location regardless of the energy source which is used there. Whether the source is from the grid or from a sustainable source as wind, solar or hydropower Charge.me is able to provide EV owners with fast charging.

Our way to success

In order to develop our idea, we tested 6 Lean Canvi based on hypothesis. For this testing procedure we conducted 10 structured interviews with customers of the B2C sector, an online survey with 63 participants of the B2C sector, a prototype test with 18 replies providing feedback and 2 explorative interviews with supermarket managers to explore the B2B sector. During that process we took one pivot as our first idea did not seem promising enough after testing the hypotheses we developed.

As developing a technical prototype was too expensive for us (approximately 7.700 €) we build a landing homepage as a conceptual prototype and for concept testing. Visitors of that homepage had the opportunity to give us feedback and provide us with their contact details when further interested.

Outcome and further Steps

During the last semester we worked on a detailed business plan based on our idea and created an investor pitch with the help of our internal and external coaches. At the end of our project we had the chance to pitch our idea in front of a professional jury.

The next steps for our team will now be to develop a working technical prototype and to get in contact with B2B customers in order to test if our concept is ready for market and to take the next step towards a market entrance.
