Position at IIB, other positions and academic career

Igor Filatotchev is a Professor of International Business. He is also a Professor of Corporate Governance and Strategy at King’s Business School, King’s College London. He is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business and British Academy of Management. He held various academic positions at Nottingham University Business School, Bradford University School of Management, Cass Business School and Birkbeck College (University of London). He earned his PhD in Economics from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (Moscow, the Russian Federation). Currently he is a Senior Editor, Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Business and Management, after serving as editor in Journal of Management studies and Corporate Governance: An International Review.

Research interest

Igor's research interests are focused on a fast growing area in the management and economics literature relating to corporate governance effects on entrepreneurship development, strategic decisions and organisational change. Key research programmes currently in progress include analysis of resource and strategy roles of corporate governance; corporate governance life-cycle; and a knowledge-based view on governance development in entrepreneurial firms and IPOs. These projects were supported by research grants from various national and international donors, including the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council, the UK Department of Trade and Industry, Leverhulme Trust, Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and the European Commission. He has published more than 150 journal articles, books and book chapters in the fields of corporate governance and strategy in leading academic journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Perspectives, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Management Studies and Journal of Business Venturing. His contribution to International Business has been acknowledged in 2019 by the Journal of International Business Studies Silver Medal award.
