Furthermore, the program can be pursued on a full-time basis or, under certain conditions, on a part-time basis while working.

On December 16, 2025, the now Competence Center for Financial Education is introduced with an event titled Financial Education – a Life Skill that connects Disciplines, also featuring a panel discussion.
Just two years after its inauguration, the Center for Financial Education became the Competence Center for Financial Education, which brings together the expertise in financial education from several departments at WU Wien. The director of the Competence Center for Financial Education is Julia Riess and Bettina Fuhrmann serves as its academic director. Both are from the Institute for Business Education at WU Wien.

On September 12, 2023, the inauguration of the Center for Financial Education takes place at WU Wien.
One of the most important projects of the newly established Center for Financial Education are the financial education coaches in (Viennese) schools.

Study Business Education while working
Starting with the 2011/12 winter semester, it is possible to pursue the master’s program in Business Education at WU Wien while continue working.
Even though many students work while pursuing their studies, the part-time master’s program in Business Education differs significantly from other programs.
Through the use of distance learning phases, the concentration of in-person sessions during the semesters and timely communication of the schedule for the upcoming semester, the program is designed to allow students to balance their studies with their professional careers as effectively as possible. For this reason, only 30 students can be admitted to the part-time track each year; the program is designed to target (for more information)
teachers of business subjects at BMHS with at least 8 teaching hours per week, or
individuals with at least five years of professional experience following a full-time degree program who will remain employed during the master’s program.
1st Austrian Business Education Convention
Initiated by Josef Aff, the 1st Austrian Business Education Convention takes place on May 4, 2007 at the WU Wien, under the motto "Dialog between Research and Practice in Business Education".
Josef Aff becomes Head of the Institute for Business Education
After a 10 years of occupational activities in Germany as head of the Business Education chairs at the Universities of Cologne and Nuremberg, Josef Aff is appointed as Head of the Institute for Business Education at WU Wien.
Under Josef Aff's leadership, the following developments, among others, take place at the Institute for Business Education at WU Wien:
Integration of the practical phase into the degree program in the sense of a single-phase training (therefore five instead of four semesters - graduation with "teaching qualification").
Graduation with a Master of Science (not a Master in Education) to ensure compatibility with WU degrees and to promote polyvalence (professional employment options beyond schools).
Adding a "Business Eduation flavor" to the bachelor's degree program by offering the specialization "Business Training & Education Management", now known as "Business Training"
Establishing a Business Education degree program for working professionals ("career changer offer") for future BMHS teachers
Initiation of annual Business Education Conventions - alternating at all four BE locations in Austria - to institutionalize a disciplinary scientific discourse as well as the organization of Conventions for Didactics of Business Education at the Vienna location every two years to promote a practical dialogue with BMHS teachers.
Realization of EU educational cooperation projects with other EU member states to promote economic education in transition countries (Bulgaria, Russia, Central Asia, etc.).
Emphasis on subject-specific didactics in the master's program
Curricular incorporation of economics in the BE master's program (core subject and free elective) because this subject contributes significantly to addressing ethical, ecological and economic policy issues and is able to make a significant contribution to reflection and education.
Longer Standard Period of Study due to Supervised Teaching Practicum
As part of the reform of social and economic science programs, the duration of the Business Education program in Austria is extended to standard period of study of nine semesters.
The main reason for this one-semester extension is to allocate even more time to the practical school phase - the so-called Supervised Teaching Practicum - within the single-phase training program. This reform defines the curricular framework for Austrian business education until the 2002 university reform. Traces of this shift in thinking are also reflected in the restructuring of the degree program in accordance with the Bologna Process. A master’s program in business education at WU Wien lasts five semesters, while all other master’s programs have a standard period of study of four semesters.
Let's head to the Althanstraße University Center
In 1982, WU Wien moves into the newly constructed Althanstraße University Center (UZA 1, North Wing), located above the freight station of the Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof in Vienna's 9th district.
The new address of WU Wien is Augasse 2 - 6, 1090 Wien and the best way to get there by public transport is by taking tram line D.
The University of World Trade becomes Vienna University of Economics and Business

Wildfried Schneider becomes Head of the Institute for Business Education
After Wildfried Schneider earned his habilitation in 1970 with a habilitation treatise on programmed and computer-assisted instruction, he becomes Head of the Institute for Business Education in 1971.
The Business Education Program
As part of a higher education reform, Business Education becomes an independent field of study.
After a standard period of study of eight semesters, the program concludes with a Magister (more or less equivalent to master) degree in Social and Economic Sciences and a qualification to teach at BMHS.
Hans Krasensky becomes Head of the Institute for Business Education
As early as 1935, Hans Krasensky developed the discipline of business education as a branch of business administration in his work "Grundzüge der Wirtschaftspädagogik" [Fundamentals of Business Education].
His goal was to establish economic education not only as domain knowledge but also as a pedagogical concept. Hans Krasensky becomes the first Head of the Institute for Business Education.
Becoming of the Institute for Business Education
The Institute for Educational Business Administration at the University of World Trade is renamed to Institute for Business Education.

Diploma program with a two-semester postgraduate program
With new examination regulations that takes effect in 1935, the entire training program for Austrian business educators (teachers) is consolidated at the University of World Trade.
Following their three-year diploma program, teacher candidates must complete a two-semester postgraduate program supervised by the Institute for Educational Business Administration, which concludes with a state examination. The reason for this "additional training" is that the academic degree "Diplomkaufmann" with it's only three year study period is not recognized as a full academic degree in the civil service.
Formation of the Academic Institute for Educational Business Administration
In 1928, a program in subject-specific didactics offered as part of the "Seminar on the Methodology of Teaching Economics/Business" at the University of World Trade gives rise to the "Academic Institute for Educational Business Administration".
This institute, which is later renamed the "Institute for Educational Business Administration", is the predecessor of the Institute for Business Education.
The Imperial Export Academy becomes the University of World Trade
Starting with the 1919/20 academic year, the Imperial Export Academy is renamed the University of World Trade.[4].
The program lasts six semesters, with the first two semesters devoted primarily to introduction to commercial sciences. The remaining semesters focus on training in international trade and banking, with courses in economics, law, and business administration/commercial sciences. Graduates are awarded the academic degree of Diplomkaufmann (Dipl.-Kfm., later Dkfm.).
It should be noted that in the 21 years the Imperial Export Academy exists, only one woman completes this program: Ms. Anna Baidaff, born in 1896 in Galicia, attends the Imperial Export Academy from 1914 until her successful graduation in 1917.
Relocating to Franz-Klein-Gasse
Since the former Festetics Palace in Berggasse in the 9th district has become too small, the newly constructed building in Franz-Klein-Gasse in the 19th district, near Währinger Park, is opened and an relocated to on March 20, 1917.
Academic Training for Business Educators (Teachers)
Until 1907, when examination regulations for the academic training of Austrian business educators (teachers) are established, there is no teacher training program for economics-related subjects.
Subsequently, training in economics takes place at the Imperial Export Academy, while training in philosophy and pedagogy takes place at the University of Vienna.
Inception of the Imperial Export Academy
The Imperial Export Academy is founded in 1898 as an affiliate of the Museum of Commerce at Berggasse 16 in 1090 Vienna.
With regard to the later discipline of business education, it should be noted that the Imperial Export Academy already has a "Seminar on the Methodology of Teaching Economics/Business".
