ECOP INDUSTRIAL - Heat Pump for Industrial Purposes
Sommersemester 2010
Executive Summary
Summary
The ambition of ECOP Industrial is to launch an industrial heat pump which is more efficient than the existing ones. It enables industrial companies to reduce both electronic power consumption and the CO2 emission. Moreover it prevents the usage of toxic, flammable and environmental harmful refrigerants. So ECOP Industrial has the potential to outgun the competitors in efficiency and in environmental friendliness. Therefore it comes with the capability to establish a new standard in heating and cooling industry.
Customer Pain
Companies face the problem that energy costs are constantly increasing. What is more, the EU introduced new policies concerning CO2 emissions which means that companies have to produce in a more eco-friendly way, otherwise they will get fined. In general, a significant trend towards environmental-friendly production according to high pressure of the public and in politics can be seen.
Product and USP
EcOP Industrial offers an eco-friendly solution for this problem with its innovative heat pump which can be used for production processes. Basically a heat pump is moving heat from one place to another. It is similar to an air condition but it uses the waste heat which is generated in the cooling process and converts it into process or space heat. Hence, it is possible to cool and heat at the same time with a heat pump. ECOP Industrial invented a new innovative technology. Due to this innovation the USP of ECOP Industrial is that its heat pump provides a higher temperature range, runs with lower energy costs and works without the use of CO2 producing refrigerants.
The construction of the prototype is in progress and the application for the patent for the national registration in Germany/ Austria is submitted.
Company
The company was founded in 2009 by Bernhard Adler (CTO) and Sebastian Riepl (CEO) with both having a technical background. They are supported by a team which has technical, business and finance skills. The ambition of ECOP Industrial is to launch a heat pump which is more efficient than the existing ones. ECOP Industrial has the potential to outgun the competitors in efficiency and in environmental friendliness and therefore it comes with the capability to establish a new standard in heating and cooling industry.
Market
The total market potential of industrial heat pumps in Germany, Austria and Switzerland is approximately 805,000 units which would be a potential market value of € 56 billion. At the moment only 3% of the potential market is penetrated.
Competitive Landscape
Seven important competitors have been identified in the German-speaking region but they are not specialized in industrial heat pumps. The development of market entries for industrial heat pumps is still in its infancy and the dominant design is not established yet.
Business Strategy
ECOP industrial is initially focusing on the German-speaking part (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) of Europe. The next step will be the penetration of the European market followed by the world market (especially China, India and the US).
ECOP Industrial will not only generate its earnings by the sale of the heat pumps but also by the provided maintenance service, therefore CRM is very important.
Marketing
For every target group a customized strategy is used. As ECOP Industrial operates in the B2B sector, the essential marketing strategy will be direct marketing and sales. In addition to that, according to branch requirements and earning potential, construction firms, air-conditioning engineers and energy consultants are used as an intermediary to support sales. In addition, ECOP Industrial will exhibit in trade fairs. Moreover, as required to enter the public sector, ECOP Industrial itself will participate in tenders or in co-operation with air-conditioning engineers.
Finance
In 2012 ECOP will enter the market and the first revenues are generated. They will increase significantly in 2016, when the planned co-operation with strategic partners is fully established. In year 3 (2013), a net income after taxes of approximately € 85,000 will already be achieved rising to approximately € 7.3 million in 2016. Regarding the financial requirements, ECOP is in the need of € 1 million for financing the first two years. In 2013 ECOP will already break even and reach a ROI of 99 % in 2015.
