Hector Martinez

Hector Martinez is a Lecturer in the Management Department at the Gatton College of Business and Economics. His research has focused on motivation, and in particular the impact of coaching on employee engagement, performance, and meaningfulness of work.

Within the constellation of possible selves, the ideal self has been identified as particularly important in developmental coaching for its role in self-determination. When the ideal self is discovered and expressed, its salience has an impact on inspiration, motivation, and engagement towards change and development. In this talk, insights regarding the discovery and expression of the ideal self will be presented; furthermore, its impact on employee development within organizations will be discussed. The talk will conclude with recent work on its evolution through one’s lifetime.
