Good to know

When planning your next research project, you should consider these questions:

  • What data will I produce during the project (e.g. data types, size, sensitive data)?

  • How will I organize my data (e.g. database, file folder)?

  • If I apply for external funding, did I include costs for data management in the application?

  • How can my data be stored securely for 10 years?

  • How will my data be made available to colleagues or the general public after the end of the research project?

A Data Management Plan (DMP) is a useful tool for research data management. It is a set of questions that can help you manage your data professionally and sustainably. Research funding agencies are increasingly requesting DMPs as part of the application. You can create a DMP, e.g. using the online tool DMPOnline. If you have questions about DMPs, you can contact Xenia Ulrich (Research Service Center).
