Using and Understanding CC Licenses:
Licensing copyrighted works such as texts and other scholarly outputs under an Open Access–compatible license is no longer a novelty; rather, it has become an established practice, at least within academic publishing. Questions surrounding the implementation and legal effects of Creative Commons (CC) licenses remain highly relevant over time. In this session, Ina Kaulen, legal expert at the Hamburg State and University Library Carl von Ossietzky, will revisit some key concepts and typical copyright-related contractual arrangements in Open Access publishing. Her explanations are intended to help participants navigate the often complex world of licensing.

In addition, Creative Commons is currently developing CC Signals, an initiative that explores new approaches and ideas to promote greater openness in relation to AI products. The event will also take a brief look at this emerging development.

When: 09.07.2026, 10.00 - 11.00 Uhr

Where: Webex-Webinar

The presentation will be given by Dr. Ina Kaulen (Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg Carl von Ossietzky)
