You can use Wi-Fi on your notebook or on your smartphone throughout the entire WU campus. Public surfstations and PC labs offer internet access as well. However, you have to log in with your login data first.
The following three Wi-Fi networks are available at WU. Please choose a network that is suitable for you.
|wu||WU employees and WU students||username and Wi-Fi password|
|eduroam||students and employees of organizations which participate in the eduroam project||with the login data of their home organizations or institutions|
|wu-conference||participants of events at WU campus||with the login data provided on-site by the event organizer|
After connecting to the “wu-conference” network, you will be automatically redirected to an authentication page as soon as you select the network from a list of available Wi-Fis. Perhaps your smartphone displays a system message, asking you to enter the provided login data.
Temporary Wi-Fi Access
Entitled WU employees can set up a temporary Wi-Fi access for conferences and guests at WU by using the Controlpanel application. For details, please refer to Instructions on Account Management (German, pdf).
Frequently Asked Questions
What is eduroam?
Eduroam is an international project that allows students and employees of participating education institutes to use the Wi-Fi infrastructure of a partner organization with the login data of their home organization; i.e. WU members can log in e.g. at the University of Vienna or at the University of Berlin with their WU login data. Similarly, members of a university other than WU, can log in to the Wi-Fi network at WU.
I am a WU employee. Shall I use “wu-conference” during events at WU?
No, as WU employee, you should always use “wu”. Then your notebook has access to the same network resources as your workstation PC.
I study at a university other than WU. Which Wi-Fi network shall I use?
Where do I get the Wi-Fi login data for participants of my event?
You will receive the Wi-Fi ID shortly after your event has been registered. In case of questions, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What can I do if I have troubles accessing WU’s Wi-Fi network?
We recommend following these steps:
WU account holders can change the Wi-Fi password in the Controlpanel
This step ensures that you have access to the Wi-Fi services with your password. Surfstations and PC labs offer access to the Controlpanel application.

Delete already saved connections on your notebook
for the networks “wu” and “eduroam”. This ensures that your device uses the connection data provided by the server and ignores all saved data for the connection.
Update the drivers of your Wi-Fi adapter
After an upgrade to Windows 10, there might be problems due to inappropriate drivers. Contact the manufacturer website of your Wi-Fi adapter and download the latest driver. Then uninstall the currently used driver. Afterwards install the new driver and if necessary, restart the device.
Reconnect with the provided networks
If you have a WU account, use the network “wu”. If you are employed or enrolled at another institution, use the network “eduroam” and the login data of your home institution.
In both cases, accept the provided certificate by clicking “OK” or “Connect”.
Set up the network connection manually
The network must not appear in the list of networks that are or were already connected! Connection details for a manual set up are available in the instructions down below.
Check your power saving settings and adjust them if necessary
Some power saving settings may reduce the available power for the built-in Wi-Fi antenna. In areas with weak network coverage establishing a stable Wi-Fi connection can therefore be hindered.
In case of questions concerning Wi-Fi connections and the steps mentioned above please contact IT Support Center.
