Background

Alexandra Thomik is a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute for Production Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU). She holds a master’s degree in supply chain management from WU. Before commencing her doctoral studies, she worked as a Project Engineer in the beverage industry, where she was responsible for developing and implementing automation and site development projects within production and logistics departments. Through this role, she gained comprehensive practical experience in supply chain processes and operations.

Her research explores equitable redistribution strategies supported by digital technologies, addressing the surplus and security paradox – particularly the coexistence of food surplus and food insecurity in charitable contexts, and of surplus donations and unmet needs in the humanitarian sector.
