Partnership Africa-UniNet

The Austrian-African research network Africa-UniNet was launched in 2020 by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) and the Austrian Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) under the leadership of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna. The initiative strives to create a long-term stable basis for collaboration between Austrian and African universities and research institutions. It aims to foster new contacts, deepen scientific cooperation and provide opportunities for innovative joint research projects.

The Vienna University of Economics and Business has been a member of the research network since its foundation. Prof. Jonas Bunte, the head of our institute, is also the official representative of WU Vienna to the other network members.

Competence Centre for Emerging Markets and Central and Eastern Europe

Knowledge, business, vision - these are the three keywords that sum up the activities of the Competence Centre for Emerging Markets and Central and Eastern Europe. The Competence Centre is an interdisciplinary research institution of the Vienna University of Economics and Business that brings together researchers from a wide range of institutes and departments and focuses on developments in emerging and transition economies. The 40 or so countries in this group are usually divided into regional country groups - quite a few countries are in the region of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Austria's historical, societal and still significant economic ties with this region are the reason for WU's increased academic attention to these countries through the Competence Centre, which has long been reflected in numerous publications from various research fields. Since April 2023, our Head Prof. Jonas Bunte has also been assigned to the Competence Centre for Emerging Markets and Central and Eastern Europe as a researcher.
