Data Privacy Policy for the Newsletter

2. Purpose of Data Processing

We process the personal data you provide when subscribing to our newsletter solely for the purpose of sending newsletters and information about the activities, events, publications, and updates from the Institute for International Political Economy.

3. Categories of Personal Data

The following personal data may be processed

  • Name

  • E-mail address

  • Selected newsletter preferences

  • Date and time of registration

  • Confirmation of registration (double opt-in)

  • Technical information on the delivery and use of the newsletter

Providing your data is voluntary. However, without providing the required information, newsletter delivery is not possible.

4. Legal Basis

The processing of your personal data is based on your consent pursuant to Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.

You may withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

5. Double Opt-in and Proof of Consent

After registering for the newsletter, you will receive a confirmation email requesting confirmation of your subscription (double opt-in procedure). This serves to verify that the owner of the email address requested the subscription.

For the purpose of documenting consent, we may store:

  • IP address,

  • date and time of registration,

  • date and time of confirmation.

This processing is carried out on the basis of our legitimate interest pursuant to Article 6(1)(f) GDPR in proving consent and preventing misuse.

6. Newsletter Service Provider

We use Mailingwork as our newsletter service provider for managing subscriptions and sending newsletters.

Mailingwork processes personal data on our behalf pursuant to Article 28 GDPR and only in accordance with our instructions.

The processing generally takes place within the European Union.

7. Storage Duration

Your personal data will be stored for as long as you remain subscribed to the newsletter.

After unsubscribing or withdrawing your consent, your data will be deleted unless legal retention obligations apply or storage is necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims.

Evidence of consent may be retained for the duration of applicable limitation periods.

8. Newsletter Analytics

Our newsletters may contain technologies that allow us to analyze whether newsletters are opened and which links are clicked. This information helps us improve our newsletter content and communication.

The processing is based on your consent pursuant to Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.

9. Your Rights

Under applicable data protection law, you have the following rights:

  • right of access (Art. 15 GDPR),

  • right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR),

  • right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),

  • right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),

  • right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),

  • right to object (Art. 21 GDPR),

  • right to withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7(3) GDPR).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority.

You may unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included in every newsletter email or by contacting us directly.
