• Graduates of the doctoral program in Social and Economic Sciences are awarded the academic degree "Doktor/in der Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften" (Doctor in Social and Economic Sciences, Dr.rer.soc.oec.)

• The academic degree "Doktor/in der Rechtswissenschaften" (DOctor of Law, Dr.iur.) is awarded on successful completion of the doctoral Program in Business Law. 

•  Graduates of PhD programs are awarded the academic degree PhD (Doctor of Philosophy).

The Diploma Supplement is a bilingual document (German and English) issued to all graduates of WU Vienna University of Economics and Business at graduation in addition to their degree certificate. The Diploma Supplement is issued automatically and free of charge. It facilitates academic and professional recognition of European degrees, thus increasing the transparency of qualifications, and provides information about the duration and contents of the degree program, and about the academic and professional skills acquired by the graduate. In a globalized society and economy, the Diploma Supplement provides an internationally comparable description of the degree program, and encourages mobility and access to education and life-long learning. The Diploma Supplement is not a substitute for the original qualification, for a transcript, or for a CV, and it does not guarantee recognition of a degree.

If you choose not to attend a ceremony, you can graduate in absentia. To do so, you will need to file a request with the Study Service Center / Examinations Office during office hours to have your certificate and rolled diploma issued. These documents are printed during the preparations for the upcoming academic graduation ceremony and are then available for collection during opening hours. A fee of € 30 applies if you wish to graduate in absentia. It can be paid by ATM card in the Study Service Center / Examinations Office (no cash payments accepted) or by bank transfer. Please note that bank transfer forms stamped in your bank’s self-service area and online banking printouts cannot be accepted as proof of payment.

Graduating under the auspices of the federal president is possible if you

• have passed the upper classes of secondary school with honors

• have passed the school-leaving examination with honors

• have received the best grade in all subjects of your university studies and in the viva voce of your doctoral studies

• have written a dissertation that has been evaluated with the grade exellent by your assessors

• have completed your studies within the average duration of studies, unless there are good reasons why you have taken longer (for example illness), and

• your behaviour at university and outside has been exceptional.
