28/04/2025

The Institute for International Political Economy is pleased to welcome Professor Quan Li for a guest talk.

The Institute for International Political Economy is pleased to welcome Professor Quan Li for a talk exploring how U.S. sanctions affect American firms supplying Huawei.

Professor Quan Li is an expert on economic globalization, political violence, and international trade. He holds the position of Professor of Political Science at the Texas A&M University, George Bush School of Government and Public Service.

His research challenges traditional views, showing that firms may not always suffer financially and may even thrive by adopting strategic responses to geopolitical shocks.

In his talk Professor Li will explore the financial impact of U.S. sanctions on American firms, focusing on their responses to sanctions and the financial performance of suppliers to Chinese tech giant Huawei. Using detailed firm-level data his study shows that BWL isn’t everything - politics matters and can reshape markets in unexpected ways.

It’s your chance to engage directly with Professor Li, ask questions and actively participate in the discussion!
