The Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law of WU, Vienna University of Economics and Business, is hosting a row of conferences:

Court of Justice of the European Union: Recent VAT Case Law

The objective of the conferences is to analyze the recent case law of the Court of Justice in the area of indirect taxation. Judgments rendered in the previous year as well as important previous judgments are analyzed by panels consisting of leading academics, judges, government representatives and business representatives from all over Europe and as far as Australia. The case law analysis is done topic by topic.

There is basic agreement on a need to modernize the VAT System and to identify the weaknesses in the current VAT systems. This row of conferences would like to provide groundwork for moving towards this direction, both by providing a forum for more dialogue between practitioners, academic and government representatives, and by closely analyzing the judgments of the Court who is the key player in clarifying VAT law.
