FAQ

In this section, we collect and answer recurring student questions about the SBWL application and other topics related to the SBWL itself.

How many spots are available in the SBWL RSGB?

Starting from the winter semester of the academic year 2026/27, we are glad to offer 90 spots.

I would really like to secure a spot on your SBWL. What can I do to support this?

Since our SBWL is a first-come-first-served based one, the most you can do is apply as early as possible. Experience shows that places fill up quite fast. Chances depend highly on other students’ preferences (ranking of their SBWL choices), performance (on entry exams of other SBWLs) and of course how fast you/they apply. The ranking is carried out automatically by MyMatch. 

The higher you rank our SBWL, the higher your chances to get in. For example, some other students might be quicker than you, but have our SBWL ranked as their second choice. If this person gets accepted to their first preference (eg. after a successful entry exam on that SBWL), you will move up in our ranking.

Is there a waiting list?

Yes, MyMatch is handling waiting lists and fills released spaces automatically. We do not have information on the actual ranking on the waiting list. In contrary to past semesters, we will not be able to provide information to students on this. Also, instead of announcing the enrollment results via email, from 2026/27 all students applying to any SBWL at WU will be informed on the same day via MyMatch.

Can members of the RSGB Institute help me obtain a place on the SBWL?

No, we do not interfere with the registration process for various reasons – most importantly as registration on a first-come first-served basis also applies to some other SBWLs. The matching process is carried out exclusively by MyMatch.

I have been accepted to the SBWL. Is there anything else I have to do?

Yes. Don't forget to register for Core Course 1 when the registration period starts. Please note that enrolling in Core Course 1 is mandatory to keep your eligibility to pursue our SBWL. Should you not apply in the specified time period, you automatically loose your eligibility, and your place will be assigned students waiting for an SFK spot.

I got accepted for the SBWL RSGB. Do I have to enroll in both Core Course 1 and 2 to remain eligible?

Once you get admitted to our SBWL, to keep your eligibility, it is obligatory to register (only) for Core Course 1. Both Core Course 1 and 2 are offered every semester. Students usually take them in parallel. If you have other plans (semester abroad, etc.), you can postpone Core Course 2 for another semester, that does not affect your eligibility. However, it might be important information when organizing your study plan that finishing both core courses is a prerequisite for taking electives. Once you finish those two, (only) then can you apply to electives.

Can I take electives in parallel with the core courses?

No, as finishing both core courses is a prerequisite for taking electives.

Can you give me information on where I stand in the ranking?

No. All students will be notified about the results on the same day via MyMatch. To find the date regarding the actual semester, visit this central WU page: Access to the Specializations - Bachelor's Student Guide: German-Taught Programs - Bachelor's Student Guide.

I am planning a semester abroad. Can I take some of the SBWL courses remotely?

No, it is not possible since we require students to be present on at least 80% of a certain course. Overlaps with other courses or obligations cannot be taken into account.

I would like to know if a course I took abroad is eligible in the credit acceptance system. How can I find it out?
