SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy

Nearly 800 million people around the world do not have access to affordable energy – as WU students Ramona and Stefan tell us, changing this is one of the main aims of SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy. Another key focus is providing clean and sustainable energy, an aspect which connects to SDG 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13, Climate Action. So what can we do as individuals? We should take steps to minimize our own energy consumption. We can do this by, for example, taking public transportation or covering our pots when cooking –  simple acts that can save great amounts of energy.

In the second video, Stefan interviews Dr. Werner Hoffmann, Academic Director of the Master’s of Strategy, Innovation, and Management Control at WU, about his research on sustainable business models. In terms of business operations, Dr. Hoffmann sees potential for new technologies that will enable companies to store energy in the warmer months to save it for the colder months. On a large scale, he sees it as necessary that new sustainable technologies are usable for companies, as this is the way these technologies will proliferate and become profitable.
