We are proud of our colleagues at the Sustainability Challenge! Read more about this unique cross-institutional course. . .

Our teammates/colleagues Christian Rammel (WU STaR), Rudolf Dömötör (WU Entrepreneurship Center Network), Gordana Maric and Anna-Maria Krulis (RCE Vienna/ Sustainability Challenge) have recently received this year’s WU Innovative Teaching Award, with the focus on “Seamless Learning: Shaping Learning Environments.”

The Sustainability Challenge is a cross-disciplinary, practice-oriented course organized by the RCE Vienna and taught conjointly by five universities in Vienna: Vienna University of Economics and Business, the University of Vienna, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna University of Technology, and the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

Thematically, the course focusses on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students of all majors are welcome to apply for one of the two offered tracks.

The Service Learning Track
  • students work together with partner companies, ministries, or NGOs on a sustainability-related project

The Startup Track
  •  students are supported in realizing their own sustainability-driven business idea

Cross-disciplinary teams work for two semesters on their sustainability related projects and celebrate the progress at joined events, which also gives the opportunity to share experiences and establish new contacts within as well as outside the university context. Periodical assignments guide the students and encourage them to reflect critically. The open learning environment fosters creativity and helps students to develop their emotional, cognitive and action skillset further.

Information on the award as well as a description of the course is available here [in German].

The next round (for 2021-2022 academic year) of Sustainability Challenge will start in October 2021.
The application process will open on Mai 3. Please find further information here [in German].
