Studying Sustainability

Every semester, WU students can choose from between 80 to 100 courses on environmental and/or social sustainability at the  bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels as well as mixed-level electives. Sustainability is also embedded in WU's core curriculum at the bachelor's level via mandatory (for most students) course sequence Module ZuWi.

If you are currently enrolled or work at WU, the best way to get informed about course offerings is via the vvz [course directory] website.

Additional STaR tips:

  • Review the teaching profiles of STaR WU faculty members and members of the STaR intellectual community

  • Several faculty members at WU are actively engaged in the Scientists for Future (S4F) movement and lecture in its cross-disciplinary Lectures4Future series. See if there are offerings this/next semester.

  • Check out a unique hands-on program taught conjointly by five major universities in Vienna. It is called Sustainability Challenge and is coordinated by STaR colleagues at RCE Vienna (the website is largely in German).

  • Download our STaR Topics List from the BA/MA Theses Website. Many of the theses supervisors offer courses on topics related to their research and thesis supervision.

  • Take a look at the STaR SDG-Video series on our SDG-Hub page and learn more about WU faculty who research and teach on sustainability.
