Research Strategy

The Department of Socioeconomics develops evidence-based insights and solutions to pressing economic, societal, and ecological challenges. Its research combines analytical rigor with real-world relevance, linking theory-driven inquiry with empirical investigation in diverse contexts.

A core priority is to advance innovative research designs and methodologies, drawing on cutting-edge qualitative and quantitative approaches, including the reflective use of AI-based methods. This methodological strength supports high-impact research that contributes to international academic debates and informs policy and practice.

The department plays a leading role in advancing socioeconomics through integrative approaches that address systemic interdependencies, institutional dynamics, and biophysical constraints shaping economic processes. Its research agenda engages with global transformations and contributes to developing more sustainable and equitable economic systems.

Research activities extend across multiple levels—from local to global—and address a wide range of economic practices, governance arrangements, and policy challenges. This includes transdisciplinary collaboration, enabling the co-production of knowledge with stakeholders from policy, business, and civil society.
