Virtual Campus in the ENGAGE.EU Signature Course "Future of Work"

Course: ENGAGE.EU Signature Course “Future of Work”

Technologies used: Three-dimensional learning environments

A three-dimensional learning environment, such as the Virtual Campus for ENGAGE.EU, can be used for activities within a course, including team-building, gamified kick-offs, course closures with integrated feedback, and much more. Insights into the uses of the Virtual Campus are featured on the ENGAGE.EU website.

In the ENGAGE.EU Signature Course “Future of Work,” which is jointly run by the University of Mannheim, the University of Toulouse Capitole, the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen, and the Vienna University of Economics and Business, students from four European universities work together across national borders. collaborate across national borders. The Virtual Campus serves as a shared digital meeting place, enabling synchronous encounters, interaction, and collaboration. It is used for both the kick-off and the closing of the course.

During the kick-off, students get to know each other through a treasure-hunt bingo, which is filled with documents containing information about the course. They also meet their working groups and discuss forms of collaboration. For the closing of the course “Future of Work,” the focus is on reviewing the course and reflecting together. A mood barometer is used as a starting point. This is a scale from one to ten, displayed on the floor in the room. Students respond to questions by positioning their avatars on the scale, which can also serve as a good starting point for discussions or refining feedback. Afterwards, the teams move to different stations with in-depth questions about the course, their learning experiences, and the challenges of international cooperation. The most important insights and takeaways are recorded on whiteboards. This serves as the basis for a plenary discussion that results in key impressions and highlights different types of feedback on the course.

Between the kick-off and closing, the Virtual Campus remains available as an open space where students and teachers can meet and work together.
