The study investigates how regulation and grand corruption shape the rise of Bitcoin trading.

Dr. Andrew Isaak, assistant professor at the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation has received an acceptance decision from the journal Organization Science (VHB-rank: A+, WU Star List). The study explores the impact of regulation and corruption on rise of Bitcoin trading and platform founding in 48 countries over time through the lens of decentralized autonomous organizations. While the number of Bitcoin exchange platforms in a country is positively associated with Bitcoin legalization, Bitcoin trading volume is positively associated with Bitcoin illegalization. Among others, the study also uncovers that in countries with higher levels of grand corruption (e.g., by higher-level officials), Bitcoin illegalization becomes even more strongly associated with trading. Organization Science is widely recognized as one of the top journals in the fields of strategy, management, and organization theory. The journal publishes groundbreaking research about organizations, including their processes, structures, technologies, identities, capabilities, forms, and performance. The study is co-authored with Dr. Baris Istipliler (University of Mannheim), Prof. Dr. Suleika Bort (University of Passau) and Prof. Dr.  Michael Woywode (University of Mannheim).

Congratulations on this outstanding achievement!
