Call for Bachelor Theses: Academic Spin-Offs & Innovation Ecosystems

17/07/2025

We are looking for motivated bachelor students who want to write their thesis on the topic of academic spinoffs

Are you curious about how research turns into real-world impact? We are looking for motivated bachelor students who want to write their thesis on the topic of academic spinoffs - the fascinating intersection of science, entrepreneurship, and innovation policy.

We offer the following topics:

  1. Data Framework for Academic Spin-Offs in Austria
Develop a structured database by identifying relevant indicators and criteria of academic spin-offs (to better track and assess academic spin-offs in Austria) = potentially the data framework could be translated into survey questions as an extension of the Austrian Startup Monitor.

  2. Collaboration Models Between Business & Technical Universities
Explore how academic spin-offs emerge through collaboration between institutions in the US and EU (e.g., Bocconi & Politecnico, di Milano) and design a model for Austria.

  3. IP Standards for Spin-Offs - Insights from Practice (Especially suitable for
    Business Law students)

Investigate how intellectual property is handled in academic spin-off processes, both in the EU and the U.S. Focus on legal frameworks, VC expectations, and the role of university Tech Transfer Offices (TTOs).

  4.

If you're excited about entrepreneurship, university innovation, and the startup ecosystem, this is your chance to work on a high-impact, research-based topic.
