The FIW - Research Centre International Economics (https://www.fiw.ac.at/) is a cooperation between the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), the University Vienna, the Johannes Kepler University Linz, the University of Innsbruck, WIFO, wiiw and WSR. FIW is supported by the Austrian Federal Ministries of Education, Research and Science (BMBFW) and of Labour and Economy (BMAW).

This workshop aimed to bring together economists (and social scientists in general) based in Austria who work on housing markets. Participants were invited to present an advanced or recently published study that best reflects their current interests.

About FIW: Der "Forschungsschwerpunkt Internationale Wirtschaft" (FIW) wurde 2006 vom damaligen Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Arbeit ins Leben gerufen. Ziel war die Schaffung einer Forschungsplattform zu außenwirtschaftsrelevanten Themenbereichen.

Friedrich A. Hayek gilt den einen als Vorkämpfer für eine freiheitliche Ordnung, den anderen als Apologet des Neoliberalismus und aller diesem zugeschriebener Übel – unbestritten ist seine Stellung als eine prägende Figur für das politische Denken des 20. Jahrhunderts.

Der Wirtschaftsdienst ist die anerkannte Zeitschrift für aktuelle Debatten zur deutschen Wirtschaftspolitik und veranstaltete am 25. November 2022 in Kooperation mit dem WIFO und der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien seine Jahreskonferenz in Wien. Hochkarätige Speaker diskutierten dabei über die ökonomischen Folgen des Krieges.

The inflation rate in the euro area reached with 10.7 % a double-digit level in October 2022. Also the U.S. and the U.K. suffer from inflation rates above 8%. Such increases in consumer prices have not been witnessed for more than 40 years and have taken central bankers by surprise. They are far above the targets of the major central banks.

This workshop brings together an interdisciplinary group of researchers to discuss work in progress on migration modelling and the interaction between population mobility dynamics and environmental change.

Diesem Lehrbuch der Finanzwissenschaft liegt eine umfassende Sicht des öffentlichen Sektors in einer Volkswirtschaft zugrunde. Neben Fragen der öffentlichen Ausgaben und Einnahmen werden auch ökonomische Aspekte öffentlicher Unternehmen sowie die Finanzwissenschaft der Europäischen Union behandelt.

WIFO Director and WU Professor Gabriel Felbermayr will discuss this with Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler, Eugénia Da Conceição-Heldt (TU Munich) and Ottmar Edenhofer (TU Berlin, MCC, PIK) on 3 June 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The discussion will be led by ORF moderator Marcus Wadsak.

The highlight of the program will be the keynote speech by Natalie Chen (University of Warwick) and the subsequent panel discussion "Implications of Global Value Chain Disruptions for European Import- and Consumer-Prices" with representatives of Austrian companies and responsible persons of the Austrian economic policy.

Nobel Prizes are awarded every year in December, on the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death. Nobel laureates are celebrated in the media, but hardly anyone knows anything about the research that goes on behind the scenes. We want to change that. In cooperation with experts, we are introducing the work of the winners of each year’s Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in terms that even laypeople can understand.

Economic Thinking - Forschung am Department Volkswirtschaft - in 2015, the Department of Economics presented its research activities. Guest speakers Karl Aiginger (WIFO) and Christian Keuschnigg (University of St. Gallen) gave lectures on "Economic Thinking and Economic Policy". Ludger Wössmann from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich spoke on "The Knowledge Capital of Nations: Education and the Economics of Growth."

The 19th Spring Meeting of Young Economists took place on 24-26 April 2014 at WU. Three distinguished keynote speakers - A. Colin Cameron, Astri Muren and Martin Ravallion - were invited to present their research and elaborate on their views of the evolution of the literature within their field.
