First WU Symposium on International Business Communication

METHODOLOGICAL ISSUES IN ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS TERMINOLOGY

November 29/30, 2008 at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU)

Language: English

Organisers: Franz Rainer (Institute for Romance Languages)
Edgar Hoffmann (Institute for Slavic Languages)
Martin Herles (Institute for English Business Communication)
Elisabeth Peters (Department of Foreign Language Business Communication)

Our aim is to bring together scholars from different countries and disciplines working in the field of economic and business terminology, a group that is often kept from meeting, or even taking notice of one another's work, by linguistic or disciplinary barriers. Participants are encouraged to present issues relating to any language they are working on, but to do so in a manner comprehensible to colleagues unfamiliar with the language concerned or active in another discipline. Indeed, in order to attract interest across disciplinary boundaries, contributions should focus on methodology as a central aspect that transcends individual languages and specific problems. The term "economic and business terminology" is to be given a broad interpretation including fields where economics and business overlap with law, sociology, politics or history, to name just four possible areas.

Contributions will be published in Fachsprache.
