IPE on the Road: From Spain to Hungary

14. September 2026

From presenting research in Spain to discussing industrial policy in Budapest, Sidan Raeskyesa brought his research to two international academic conferences.

By Sidan Raeskyesa

In May 2026, I had the opportunity to present my research on how national reforms can reshape the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and inequality in Indonesia. The work was presented at an academic conference jointly organized by the Spanish Association of International Economics and Finance (AEEFI) and the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain.

Following the conference, I traveled to Budapest to present another study on industrial policy, with a particular focus on the determinants of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) establishment. The presentation received valuable feedback from fellow researchers, further enriching my ongoing work.

Beyond the academic exchanges, the trip also carried a personal dimension. It was my first return to Budapest in more than a decade. I took time to revisit one of my favorite places in the city and was glad to find that it had remained unchanged — the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, with its iconic sunset views over the Danube.
