Our alumni, Jakob Seboek shares how Politics of FDI taught by Sidan Raeskyesa led him to Jakarta for an internship.

Article by Jakob Seboek

When I signed up for Sidan Raeskyesa's class on FDI, I had no idea how much of an impact it would have on my academic and personal journey. His class is not your typical WU class: the emphasis on critical thinking and creative contributions complements the perspective that Sidan offers you to explore. The most important thing I took away from the class was an understanding of the complexity and breadth of FDI.

This motivated me to write my bachelor's thesis on political risks and FDI in Argentina and Chile, supervised by Sidan. Thanks to taking this class, I also had the opportunity to complete an internship with I-Hi Consulting in Jakarta, Indonesia. I-Hi specializes in social development projects, including initiatives to make palm oil more sustainable and establish low-emission zones in Bali. The opportunity to meet bright minds and learn about Indonesia, the world's third-largest democracy, was a huge motivator for visiting the country. While I enjoyed my time in the cozy office, filled with productive discussions, brainstorming sessions, and amazing lunches, the highlight of my internship was a work trip to Kalimantan, combined with a visit to Nusantara, the future capital city of Indonesia.
