Summer School, February 21-23, 2023

We are pleased to invite you to our Summer School on Good Governance in a Digital and Open Trading Environment (DOTE), February 21-23, 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa.

The third stage of the program, Good Governance in a Digital and Open Trading Environment (DOTE) 2021-2024 focuses on how to address tax transparency and corruption using new technologies an era of increased trade liberalization from the perspective of tax administrations, FIUs, trade and tax policymakers, businesses and CSOs. The summer schools focuses on the third of three distinct objectives:

  1. To use new technologies to transform the way that African countries combat IFFs

  2. To empower African countries to develop regulatory frameworks that minimize the risk of increased IFFs in the free trade area by harmonizing regulation and administrative practices

  3. Increasing the effectiveness of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the new digital and open trade environment to curb IFFs.

  4.

The summer school intends to bridge this capacity gap. CSOs have an important role to play as accountability partners to state governments and tax administrations and the courses offered will provide an insight on the current international tax issues and provide a meaningful foundation for the CSOs to come up with a unified narrative as they continue to pursue their objectives within the tax policy space.

The summer school intends to attract a maximum of 30 participants representing CSOs that have operations across the seven focus countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Zambia and Uganda).  Feedback drawn from the summer school will provide a basis for additional engagement with CSOs through focus groups, future summer schools and publications.
