Exploring the Role of Governance in the SDGs — STaR Workshop with the International Anti-Corruption Academy

STaR and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) jointly organised a workshop exploring the role of governance and anti-corruption in sustainable development frameworks. While the adverse effects of corruption on sustainable development have been widely discussed in public policy and research, the private-sector perspective has received comparatively less attention.

The workshop brought together international participants and experts from the public and private sectors from Austria, Azerbaijan, Haiti, Mexico, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, with participants joining both in person and online other nationalities were also present. Discussions focused on sustainable development frameworks for the private sector, ESG, and opportunities for research and capacity building. Individual presenters also examined corruption risks and potential solutions in relation to specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 2, SDG 4, SDG 8, and SDG 13.

The second half of the workshop was held in a hybrid format, further enabling participants to exchange perspectives and engage across locations. The event concluded with a discussion on opportunities for future collaboration between IACA and WU, with the aim of joining forces to advance research, capacity building, and knowledge exchange at the intersection of governance, anti-corruption, and sustainable development.
