Specialisation Interactions of Economy and Society

Within the English-taught Bachelor’s program in Business and Economics, students can specialize in ‘Interactions of Economy and Society’ (20 ECTS), a module which is co-organized by several institutes of the Department of Socioeconomics.

The specialization deals with the fact that the economy is enmeshed with social and ecological conditions, an understanding which is at the core of socioeconomics. Reflecting this approach, this specialization goes beyond teaching and applying standard economic models by including aspects of law and politics, history, and culture. Students opting for this specialization should have a definite interest in political, social, and economic issues, and be motivated to cultivate a holistic view of the economy. The department’s multidisciplinary approach is reflected in the course portfolio, which includes compulsory courses in social science theories and empirical research methods and electives in economic sociology, economic history, economic law, and political economy. Students will be able to apply the theories and methods they are taught to specific socioeconomic challenges, which promises a rewarding learning experience.
