Working Paper Impact Analysis

"What is Impact? Social effects of (nonprofit) organisations. From identification to evaluation and various forms of analysis to management."

In this working paper, the authors, Christian Schober and Olivia Rauscher, give a comprehensive overview of the topic of impacts. On the one hand, different strands of discussion are given on methods and approaches of impact analysis in general and on (monetary) evaluation in particular. On the other hand, two theory-based models for impact assessment are presented: The impact box and the two-level model of social impacts.

The working paper will be available in English soon!

The following central questions are answered:

    • What are impacts in comparison to outputs, benefits and success? What are social impacts?

    • How can impacts be meaningfully categorised?

    • Are impacts always socially relevant?

    • How can impacts be evaluated?

    • What are the different approaches to impact analysis?

    • What are the differences?
