Special Collections Rothschild & Steindl

Digital Collections and Private Libraries

The literary estates of the two eminent Austrian economists Kurt W. Rothschild (1914-2010) and Josef Steindl (1912-1993) contain their private libraries as well as extensive collections of personal papers such as letters, manuscripts, typescripts and biographic documents.

These unique materials were digitized in 2018 with the support of the Anniversary Fund of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) and are now available online. There are access restrictions to some of the digital copies or digital full texts due to copyright protection, rights of privacy or data protection.

However, on-site consultation of the entire digital collections – after signing the usage policy – is possible at the WU Library. Interested parties are asked to inform library@wu.ac.at in advance of their arrival, the expected duration of their stay, and their usage requests.

The private libraries are located in the Special Collections room LC 6.203, level 6, and are listed in the WU Catalog.

Inquiries about using the private libraries can be sent online via ROOMS (room booking system for WU members) or via email library@wu.ac.at.
