BikeBox – Revolutionizing Secure Bike Parking in Vienna

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

At BikeBox, we are driven by a simple yet powerful belief: Everyone deserves the freedom to move around their city without constraints. No one should be held back by the cost of buying and maintaining a car or the geographical and operational time restrictions of public transport. That is why we are passionate about bike riding.

Goal

Our mission is to create a network of bicycle storage hubs throughout Vienna, strategically located near apartments, offices, train stations, stores, and universities. These hubs provide secure and convenient storage for bikes, scooters, and accessories. The overarching goal is to contribute to the city's commitment to sustainable transportation and improve the overall biking ecosystem.

Methodology

In pursuit of our goals, we adopted a comprehensive methodology encompassing surveys, customer interviews, and furthermore the creation of a digital 3D-model and a demand-check via social media. In addition, we have reached out to various stakeholders regarding bike parking in Vienna to gather insights and perspectives.

The basis of our research was a survey we conducted to receive first insights about the behavior of cyclists in Vienna. Our focus then evolved to understanding the needs and pain points of bike users through street interviews and exploratory discussions. We revised our approach iteratively based on the insights gathered, ensuring a robust foundation for our business model. Our questions delved further into biking behaviors, security concerns, and preferences related to bike storing. Simultaneously, we explored regulatory requirements and studied the competitive landscape to refine our business strategy.

Results

Insights from our interviews underscored the critical need for improved bike parking in Vienna. Cyclists not only expressed fears of theft but also highlighted the inconvenience of current storage solutions. To tackle this problem our boxes will keep bicycles safe from theft, vandalism and weather while being easily accessible from the street.

Our competitor analysis identified opportunities to differentiate BikeBox by prioritizing both security and convenience. Placing BikeBoxes near apartment buildings emphasizes easy access and eliminates the need for cyclists to store bikes in their own flats or cramped basements. This dual focus on security and convenience positions BikeBox as a pioneer in addressing the holistic needs of urban cyclists. This is best done through a long-term subscription model, with a steady revenue stream ensuring the success of our operations.
