Formal Requirements for Doctoral Proposals at the IGN
The IGN is committed to providing support to young academics and welcomes applications from well-motivated and suitably qualified candidates for doctoral studies. At the IGN and in the Department of Socio-economics, there is a lively and very active post-graduate student community.
Requests to the IGN for Doctoral supervision should be accompanied by a research proposal (in either English or German).
Ph.D. and Doctoral studies at the IGN normally fall into the following broad research areas:
Theory of modern society
Social movement research
Actor analysis and political party research
Possible research topics might include, for example:
Social networks and collaboration
Social movements and political parties
Democratic systems and sustainability
Social value change
Your proposal should be ten pages long cover the following:
Relevance of research topic and relationship to the academic profile
Connection/relationship to ongoing academic debates
Provisional structure/chapter breakdown
