Sustainability Award 2022

The Institute for Managing Sustainability, headed by André Martinuzzi, has produced two impact reports (one on the impacts of research and one on the impacts of teaching) on behalf of the rectorate over the past two years.
This project has now won a Sustainability Award 2022, which is entitled "Sustainable Universities - Capturing and Shaping Impacts". It took third place in the category "Structural Responsibility".

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 13 from 11:00-13:00 in the Festsaal of the Vienna Museum of Technology in the presence of Federal Minister Köstinger and Polaschek.

Kurt Rothschild Preis 2021

Franziska Disslbacher (WiGeo) wins the Kurt Rothschild Prize 2021 for the research project "Home, sweet home? The impact of working from home on the division of unpaid work during the COVID-19 lockdown", together with Judith Derndorfer, Vanessa Lechinger, Katharina Mader and Eva Six.


Förderpreis der Wiener Juristischen Gesellschaft 2021

Birgit Hollaus was awarded the „Förderpreis der Wiener Juristischen Gesellschaft 2021“ for her outstanding dissertation. LINK


Best book in International Political Economy

Jonas Bunte was awarded for the best book in International Political Economy: “Raise the Debt: How Developing Countries Choose Their Creditors” published by Oxford University Press.


Stephan Koren-Preis 2021

Florian Findler was awarded the Stephan Koren-Preis 2021 for his outstanding dissertation.


Best Paper Award

Gunther Maier and his PhD student Kattarzyna Reyman received the gif Best Paper Award for the best paper in Housing Policy at the 2021 Annual Conference of the European Real Estate Society.  


Vienna Best Paper Award

Armon Rezai was awarded the WU City of Vienna Best Paper Award in the category C (Articles on foreign language business communication, law, humanities, sociology, economic geography and interdisciplinary topics) for his article: “The risk of policy tipping and stranded carbon assets”.


Lifetime Award and Vienna Best Paper Award

Clive Spash has received a Lifetime Award in the 2021 Handelsblatt ranking of economists. He was ranked in the top 5%.

Clive Spash was awarded the WU City of Vienna Best Paper Award in the category New Research Avenues for his article:  "A tale of three paradigms: Realising the revolutionary potential of ecological economics" published in Ecological Economics.


Bronze Medal of Masaryk University

Our colleague Manfred M. Fischer received the Bronze Medal of Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic) for the contribution to establish the Regional Economics Ph.D. program and the contribution to the development of the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Masaryk University.

    Dominik Loibner (supervisors Markus Lampe and Kilian Rieder) wins the prize for the best bachelor thesis at WU. The bachelor thesis with the title “Crisis-resilience of Community Housing in First Republic 'Red Vienna'” convinced the jury at all levels. Congratulations!
