Requests for information

To request information on any of the archived materials specified on our collection page, please contact the WU University Archives either by phone or in writing, indicating your name, your address, and the exact nature of your request. The more precisely you describe what it is you’re looking for, the better we’ll be able to help you by providing information that is as specific as possible.

If your request is related to academic research, please make sure to familiarize yourself with the available literature on WU’s history before contacting the WU University Archives.

Together with your request, please send the completed and signed user form via e-mail or via post to WU University Archives.

Information on confidentiality periods are provided in item 5.2.2. of the archive regulations.

Opening hours

WU University Archives are accesible by arrangement.

Access

To access the WU University Archives, you have to make a prior appointment by phone or in writing.

Before starting your work in the reading room, you’ll have to complete a user form, and you’ll also have to present an official photo ID at your first visit.

During the Corona crisis, access to the reading room is possible under the following additional conditions until further notice:

  • Before entering the building LC, please phone to the archives staff. You will be picked up at the main entrance.

  • When entering the building, you will be asked to make use of disinfection (available at the information desk in the entrance hall).

  • Wearing a face mask is compulsory in the whole building. At the desk of the reading room, the mask may be taken off.

  • Keep a distance of at least 1,5 m from other people.

  • Unfortunately, entering the building is not possible in case of fever or other flu symptoms.

Copies and reproductions

Upon request and upon prior approval by WU University Archives staff, you can use your own camera to take photographs of documents. If the preservation status of the required document permits and if no copyright or privacy regulations impede it, the WU University Archives can also provide you with reproductions of documents upon request, subject to staff availability. We will soon post a table of the applicable fees for reproductions and for reprinting documents from the WU University Archive in publications.

Publications based on materials from the WU University Archives

If you refer to records from the collection of the WU University Archives in a publication, you are obligated to adequately indicate the origin of the documents.
Inspection copies of any publication which uses records from the WU University Archives must be provided unprompted and free of charge. In the case of texts or series of texts published in digital format only, copies of the files or web links must be provided to the WU University Archives.Please refer to item 5.2.4.11 of the archive regulations.

The WU University Archives is happy about file copies or internet links of those publications for which its records have been consulted.
