Governance for Sustainable Development

Generally speaking, the concept of governance addresses how policy decisions are developed and implemented. Thus, it is not only about networks and participation, but about how governments and public administrations function and how their relations with the private sector and civil society change over time. Governance in the context of sustainable development primarily involves the integration of economic, social and environmental policies (horizontal integration), the integration of short- and long-term time scales (intergenerational equity) and the involvement of stakeholders in decision making (participation). These challenges and the changing relations between states, businesses and civil society are at the centre of our work.
