Professor Christoph Badelt studied economics at the former University of World Trade from 1970 to 1976 and completed his habilitation at WU in 1984. He has been a professor of economics and social policy at WU since 1989 and retired in 2019. From 2002 to 2015, he was Rector of WU, and between 2005 and 2009 he was also President of the Austrian University Conference (Rectors' Conference). From 2016 to 2021, Badelt was Director of the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO). He is the (co-)author of 17 books and the author of numerous scientific articles in anthologies and journals. In his work, he primarily deals with current problems and conflicts in the welfare state and possible solutions as well as the role of non-profit organizations. Badelt has been President of the Fiscal Council since 2021 and Chairman of the Austrian Productivity Council since 2022.
